my sweet blue eyed boy

the holidays are over and we settled back into our routine. school is in full swing and we have started ballet. the husband is running and biking his life away and i'm just keeping up with everyone. :)
here was blake + i at his christmas school party.

today i wanted to document my big boy. my sweet blue eyed boy. the one who taught me what it meant to love a son. the one who makes my heart melt every single day. it's a different kind of love. one i can't explain. i don't love him or more or less than his brother or sister but i love him differently. because he is different. he is unique in the best way possible!

with those big blue eyes that i get lost in when i look at him.

the boy who wants to help everyone all the time. no job too small or not important. this morning i asked him to grab his shoes and he replied, "i'm on it mom" in the most sincere voice.

there's no need to ask him how was his day or how was he feeling. you can tell the way he's feeling just by looking at him.

the three's have been pretty good to us so far. he started in a new class, made new friends, potty trained, and most of all has really stepped up as a big brother. will loves him. he waves to him upon seeing him after every nap.

he's a great helper when trying to get will to smile! :)

the two of them played last night together. lots of laughing and running around. he's still a crazy boy and can definitely be wild!

i don't take raising these boys for granted. he does most things with all the effort he can give. he's an encourager to everyone cheering me on when i'm pushing the stroller or riding the bike. he says, "good riding, mom".  i hope he can always encourage those he is close to. i hope he prays everyday, even when the days aren't always good.

he's turning more into a boy and we are officially out of the toddler years.

yesterday he turned three and half. we don't typically celebrate half birthdays but i told him it was his half birthday. what he heard was the word birthday. which to a three year old means candles, cake, and presents. while cake + presents were not possible at 5 pm i thought the least i could do was make what he wanted for dinner. breakfast for dinner was his choice and it was a huge hit! we might just have to start celebrating half birthdays! :)

it's so cliche but this kid makes me a better person. i've found patience i didn't know i had. he likes certain things in a particular way. while i don't understand it, it's my job to foster it. to nurture him and teach to his strengths. his teachers this year have been huge blessings to us. recognizing his strengths and teaching to him in a way that he could learn and love doing it.
this boy will forever hold a special place in my heart.
